Oscar winner Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire) is directing. Oscar winner Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network) is writing. And Michael Fassbender is going to try to convince everyone that, at one point, Ashton Kutcher didn’t already play Apple cofounder and visionary Steve Jobs.

It’s got all the hallmarks of a would-be awards contender: Ominous platitudes from disembodied voices, reverent faces — from actors like Kate Winslet, Jeff Daniels and Seth Rogen — turned towards the heavens, and flashbulb-applause.

But for a first salvo, not bad. Not bad at all.
