When asking Americans to do something difficult for the good of the country, it helps to get a former President on your side to bring out the patriot in your audience. That explains why the “multi-partisan movement” United for America drafted none other than President Jed Bartlett, aka actor Martin Sheen, to lead their clip “A Message for Electors to Unite For America,” which dropped yesterday.

The video, which also features Debra Messing, BD Wong, Moby, James Cromwell, and Sheen’s West Wing co-star Richard Schiff, is a direct address to the 538 members of the College who’ll be casting votes December 19 on behalf of their states following last month’s Presidential election. The celebs ask that at least 37 of the electors opt not to vote for Donald Trump and thereby deny him the White House. “You have the position, the authority and the opportunity to go down in the books as an American hero who changed the course of history,” the video pleads.

But that plea, which comes on the heels of multiple online petitions, as well as other efforts to convince the Electoral College to block Trump becoming the 45th President of the United States, is likely to fall on deaf ears. A new Associated Press story released today suggests that all but one member of the Electoral College is going to follow the results of their particular state. One member of the College is quoted as saying, “Hell will freeze and we will be skating on the lava before I change [my vote].”

The weather in Hell will be revealed in full this Monday, when the College votes.
