Director: Scott Stewart

MPAA Rating: (R)

Studio: Sony Pictures

In the slow, chatty new action fantasy Legion, God, apparently, has had it with mankind, so he sends his army of avenging angels to hasten the apocalypse.  Enter rebel angel Michael (Paul Bettany) who tumbles from heaven into Los Angeles and eventually joins with father-and-son diner owners Dennis Quaid and Lucas Black in the Mojave desert to save the life of a waitress (Adrienne Palicki) whose pregnancy may spell hope in the form of a savior.

Terminator called, and it wants its plot gimmick back. Along the long, humorless, pointless road to a noisy finale, the movie offers such diversions as angels with bulletproof wings, a possessed child, a nice old lady who turns creepy and zombie-like humans who appear to wander in from a George Romero movie shooting nearby. This is the way the world ends: Not with a bang but with a yawn.
