Not content with getting the world hooked on real-life murder mysteries with its 2015 first season, Serial—the This American Life long-form spinoff that investigates a single story across an entire season of episodes—is doubling down with its latest project, which… investigates a real-life murder mystery.

That doesn’t mean that S-Town will be a retread of the first season of Serial; for one thing, the new show—the first to come from the newly created company Serial Productions, which sees Serial’s Sarah Koenig and Julie Snyder team with Ira Glass and the This American Life team—will be hosted by Brian Reed, with all episodes released simultaneously, instead of Serial’s weekly format.

The limited-run series sees Reed looking into the son of a wealthy Alabama family who, apparently, had been bragging that he got away with murder, but things soon begin to take a surprising turn, according to the press release for the series. “[T]hen someone else ended up dead, and another story began to unfold,” it teases, promising “a nasty feud, a hunt for hidden treasure and the mysteries of one man’s life.”

Ira Glass, who’s serving as editorial advisor on the series, said in a statement that “every episode [of S-Town] is a new surprise. And the story has this feeling and mood that’s different from anything else we’ve done. I don’t think people have heard a show like this.”

S-Town launches next month.
