This New Zealand Pub is Serving Deer Semen Beer

This New Zealand Pub is Serving Deer Semen Beer:

There’s a pub in New Zealand that’s going for the gold at the craft beer festival Beervana with a not-so-secret-but-very-surprising ingredient: male deer semen.

The Green Man pub in the nation’s capital of Wellington sells the very literally named Stag Semen Stout, featuring the…ahem…resource of a Geraldine sire stag named Lagoon.

Brewer Kerry Gray of local brewery Choice Bros, who teamed up The Green Man for the protein-loaded stout, said, “I think [Green Man co-owner Steve Drummond had] heard we’d done some interesting beers in the past. We ummed and ahhhed, it could be good press or it could be bad press, but we thought why not?”

The brew hypes “sweet and creamy with coffee and chocolate notes” and obviously leaves out what makes it special in the tagline, but the name more or less gives it away, along with an illustration of a creature that’s half stag and half sperm.

Such a unique beer, given that it’s prone to unusual creaminess, has to use a handpump rather than force carbonation. Or as Drummond put it, “There’s only one way to serve semen stout and that’s hand-pulling it.”

This actually isn’t as rare for the pub as one might assume. In 2011, the bar sold apple-infused horse semen shots. In 2013, they went wilder with full syringes of stag semen available for locals to buy up.

Fear not, though, because, as Drummond wants everyone to know, “It’s export-quality semen. We only deal with the best.”
