In the ultimate “onto the next” move, Nike has already created a sneaker for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. With the torch in Rio only recently snuffed out and most sports fans still reminiscing about the accomplishments of Michael Phelps, Usain Bolt, Simone Biles, and that lying piece of crap Ryan Lochte, Nike released the LunarGlide 8 SP “Tokyo 2020.”
The running sneakers say “Naiki” on the tongue and “Tokyo” on the heel in Japanese characters. The Swoosh and the heel counter also feature a print of the traditional Japanese indigo dying technique known as Shibori.
The 2020 Olympics will be the second time that Tokyo has hosted the Games (the first was in 1964) and anticipation is already building, especially because Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe showed up at the Closing Ceremony in Rio dressed as Mario from the Super Mario video games.
There will also be many more new Olympic-themed releases from Nike and other sneaker companies as the torch makes its way to Japan. But if you can’t wait until then, the Nike LunarGlide 8 SP Tokyo is available at Nike.com now for $130.
