Norman Reedus’s Butt Stars in ‘Metal Gear’ Creator’s Next Game

The next game from Metal Gear Solid creator and game auteur Hideo Kojima is official, and it looks a whole lot like the creepy horror game demo he put out before his very public departure from MGS publisher Konami.

That demo was PT, a playable teaser made to look like an indie horror game but turned out to be a secret announcement for Silent Hills, a Kojima-led entry into Konami’s long-running horror franchise that was also set to include input from film director Guillermo del Toro. PT is dead, and it seems like Silent Hills is as well, but Kojima apparently has turned some of the parts into something new. Parts like Norman Reedus, and his butt.

The trailer above gives players the first look at Death Stranding, which features a newborn baby, the star of The Walking Dead, and eeriness—just like PT did. It definitely has a lot of other weirdness going on, though. Where PT was mostly about being trapped in an infinite loop of a single hallway, in which the character seemed forever forced to relive past evil deeds while intermittently being killed by a scary ghost, Death Stranding is spookiness of a different ilk. There’s Reedus’ nakedness, the Beach of Dead Things, that weird umbilical cord, as well as a disappearing baby. And it seems like all those dead marine mammals are also sporting unsettling umbilical cords that trail back into the ocean.

There’s also an effect that sounds like a monster screaming in the distance. So who knows what the hell is going on here. But this is a Kojima game, and if the Metal Gear Solid series has taught us anything, it’s that we can expect Kojima games to be weird—in a cool way.
