Earlier today, President Obama used Twitter to invite Ahmed Mohamed to an upcoming White House Astronomy Night, The Hill is reporting.
The Texas teenager was suspended from his high school earlier this week for bringing a device to school that faculty members mistook for a bomb. In reality, the device was a homemade clock Mohamed had brought to school in order to impress a teacher.
Cool clock, Ahmed. Want to bring it to the White House? We should inspire more kids like you to like science. It’s what makes America great.— President Obama (@POTUS) September 16, 2015
Mohamed, who says he hopes to someday attend MIT for engineering, told reporters he plans to accept the invitation.
“I felt pretty down that no one would know about this,” Mohamed said, before adding that the subsequent outpouring of social-media support from Obama and others made him “really happy.”
