We’ve covered the story of Kendra Sunderland pretty extensively on this site, but we’ll refresh your memories anyways. Kendra became an Internet sensation after a video of her pleasuring herself in the Oregon State University library was uploaded to various adult websites. She was then charged with public indecency for the act.
Kendra made her first appearance in court yesterday and pleaded not guilty to the charges. She faces up to one year in prison for the crime. According to Oregon law, public indecency occurs when “if while in, or in view of, a public place the person performs an act of sexual intercourse, an act of deviate sexual intercourse, or an act of exposing the genitals of the person with the intent of arousing the sexual desire of the person or another person.”
Kendra told investigator she has no idea how the video ended up online. The citation she was given in January said, “Ms. Sunderland stated that she knows people and sometimes herself gets pleasure from seeing the webcams,” which is pretty much the most obvious statement in history.
The video’s release has led to a ton of opportunities for Kendra, including an exclusive photoshoot with Playboy.com. While she didn’t tell her side of the story yesterday in court, she did tell the full account of the scandal in a video for this very website.
Seriously, does the state of Oregon not have anything more pressing to handle right now? Perhaps it’s time to start a #freekendra campaign on social media. Is this the face of someone who deserves to go to prison?
We don’t think so.
