Holy Moses. Marijuana has been declared “kosher” for Passover–if it’s used for medical purposes.
Typically weed is considered to be a part of the “kitniyot,” a collection of plants and seeds that are considered to be unusable during Passover. But a Belarusian rabbi by the name of Chaim Kanievsky has declared, according to the Times of Israel, that the good herb can be eaten or smoked by all Jews during the eight day celebration, so long as it’s for medical purposes.
Pro-legalization effort Cannabis Israel documented the presentation of the leaves for the traditional blessing.
While this does encourage those of the Jewish faith that use weed for medical purposes, it doesn’t override an earlier ruling by Orthodox rabbi Efraim Zalmanovich that forbids recreational marijuana use as a means to “escape the world.”
