There might be a new cutest Pokemon on the block when the next pair of games in the series, Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon, launch later this year.

The little guy above is Mimicyu (like “Mimic-you”), and he’s a Ghost-type Pokemon (one of the many types, similar to “water,” “rock,” “fire” and “psychic”). He looks like someone made a cheap costume to resemble Pikachu, the yellow electric mouse that has been the face of the franchise for the last 20 years, and that’s because that’s exactly what he is. According to Pokemon fan site Serebii—which cites a report from Japanese magazine CoroCoro—Mimicyu copies Pikachu because he wants to be loved like Pikachu is.

And since that is so incredibly, adorably, heart-wrenchingly sad, you’re going to be hearing a lot more about Mimicyu. The internet loves him already.

Kotaku has a great rundown of Mimicyu fanart as people who love Pokemon imagine evolutions, Mimicyus that wish they could be Charmander, Squirtle and Bulbasaur, and way more. But it seems like Mimicyu’s best bud will forever be Pikachu. In any event, it doesn’t seem like a stretch to expect to see a bunch of haphazard paper bag Pokemon costumes on Halloween this year. Because everybody just wants to be loved, including Pokemon, which, if you think about it, means they have real human emotions and motivations, and that kind of makes the whole “catching them and forcing them to fight each other for sport and profit” thing a little messed up. Oh well.
