Working with a digital marketing agency to compare Google’s national search volume with the most searched plastic surgery procedures by state in 2016, the website Plastic Surgery Portal recently analyzed the most popular plastic surgery procedures in every state.
As you might have guessed, people on the West are all about breast enlargement. They also appear to be enthralled by Kylie Jenner’s puffy lips, causing a spike in searches for lip injections. You may also note an overwhelming number of penis enlargement surgeries, suggesting men are more open to cosmetic surgery than ever before. Perhaps the least shocking of all searches is our nation’s collective interest in liposuction (which took 15 individual states), especially on the East Coast. Here’s the official map, along with a few of the most revealing insights offered by the map.
A LOT OF US THINK WE’RE OVERWEIGHT
As stated before, liposuction leads the pack, because, if we’re going to fat shame Lady Gaga during her Super Bowl performance, the majority of us are descendants of Jabba the Hutt. In all seriousness though, analytics show that 40 percent of women and 35 percent of men in the United States are considered obese, the biggest states being Arkansas, West Virginia, Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Oklahoma and Indiana. All this considered, it makes sense that liposuction is the nation’s leading procedure.
MORE MEN THAN EVER ARE OPEN TO PLASTIC SURGERY
As we continue to close the gap between gender norms, men have grown increasingly comfortable with the prospect of receiving plastic surgery. This has become especially true in the last decade. According to the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the number of cosmetic procedures for men has increased by more than 106 percent between 1997 and 2012. The primary reason cited for surgery among males is first, to look good, and second, to stay competitive in the job market. Men firmly believe good looks are linked to status.
MEN ARE INSECURE ABOUT THEIR PENISES
A lot of men are searching for penis enlargement surgeries because we feel inadequate. Given the tradition that men in porn boast penises that are at least eight inches long (a size only three percent of the world’s population identify with), it makes sense that we feel inferior, considering the international average is actually 5.6 inches. Even when a woman’s preferences are considered, the majority of men fall well below expectations. A study from UCLA and the University of New Mexico found that women want a man with a penis between 6.3 to 6.4 inches.
BREASTS STILL BEAT THE BOOTY
Despite many outlets declaring 2016 was the year of the booty (including male sex toy manufacturer Lelo), it would appear that, according to the world’s largest search engine, more women are interested in enhancing their breasts. But, according to statistics provided by the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, more than 21,000 people underwent a booty enhancing procedure in 2014, marking an 86 percent increase from the previous year. With the increasing popularity of the celebrities carrying more junk in their trunks, it can only be assumed that this number has grown exponentially.
