TORO Y MOI FEAT. ROME FORTUNE – “PITCH BLACK”
Although he released his latest LP What For? just months ago, Toro y Moi continues to push out new material. His latest, “Pitch Black,” is another example of the artist’s ability to seamlessly transition from psych-pop to chillwave to hip-hop. Floating weightlessly above the Toro tune is the poetic flow of Atlanta-based MC Rome Fortune.
BENJAMIN BOOKER – “WALKIN’ AFTER MIDNIGHT” (PATSY CLINE COVER)
Listening to Virgina singer/songwriter/guitarist Benjamin Booker’s self-titled debut was a musical highlight of my 2014. British fuzz foursome Yuck unveiled their latest piece of glittered distortion “Hold Me Closer” on Wednesday. There’s no word if this foreshadows a full-length follow-up to their highly acclaimed 2013 LP Glow & Behold.
GZA x SWEET VALLEY – “PLANETARY ENERGY”
Wavves’ Nathan Williams and brother Kynan – together known creatively as Sweet Valley – teamed up with GZA for the intergalactic track “Planetary Energy,” which will be featured on Converse’s Cons EP Vol. 3.
