Valentine’s Day is a holiday reserved for lovers, but the empathetic saps over at Pornhub understand that not all of us have a partner to celebrate the amorous and offensively expensive holiday with. So, not wanting to single out the singles on this lovey dovey holiday, Pornhub is giving the gift of free, high-definition pornography today and today only, with free access to their Pornhub Premium service.

The service, which at its inception became colloquially known as “Netflix for porn,” normally costs members $9.99 a month for full access to ad-free videos, mobile-friendly browsing, 1080p video quality, daily HD video and access to more than 13,000 full DVDs.

But while this is a very kind gesture by the notable porn purveyors, there’s no denying that there’s some smart marketing behind the liberal freebie. In data released just yesterday, we found that Pornhub’s traffic drops as much as 17 percent after 6 p.m. on Valentine’s Day, with peak drops occurring around 9 p.m. On average, traffic across the United States drops by 10 percent from 6 p.m. to Midnight.

So what does that mean? It means that, by offering free access to a paid service for 24 hours on Valentine’s Day, that Pornhub will experience an insane spike in viewership and, as I’m sure they’re expecting, an increase in membership sales by those who love what the service has to offer. But, Pornhub is a business at the end of the day, and you must respect the hustle, so we’ll pay our respects by watching unlimited amounts of hardcore pornography within a relatively short window of 24 hours. There is no credit card information required, nor conditions. Just you, your laptop and an excuse to be left alone for an hour or two in your bedroom.
