Less than two months remain until Star Wars: The Force Awakens – a film that will either be a box office record-breaker that fans adore or a box office record-breaker that fans loathe – arrives in theaters, and though Disney already has us eating out of the palm of its hand when it comes to this movie, the studio is still rolling out at least one more big marketing bang before the release.
Last week, rumors began circulating that the final, full trailer for the film, perhaps the first one that will give us a real idea of a plot, would drop today during ESPN’s Monday Night Football broadcast. Yesterday, Disney confirmed those rumors, announcing that the trailer would drop during halftime tonight, and also revealed this rather stunning poster.
Now, nerds on the internet immediately began picking this image apart when it arrived, myself included (why isn’t Luke there and what could that mean?), but it wasn’t long before Disney got our attention once again with a series of 15-second video teasers which serve as previews for the trailer itself (yeah, we do previews for previews now; it’s a weird world). They’re not much, and they don’t reveal any new characters or plot points, but this is Star Wars we’re talking about, so we’ll watch them over and over anyway. Check them out, in the other Disney dropped them, right here:
Monday Night Football kicks off at 8:30 Eastern tonight on ESPN.
