The 1984 film The Karate Kid is supposed to be a timeless underdog story about a scrawny young man who masters the art of karate to defeat a bully, but it turns out if you look closely, the movie plays very differently. As this YouTube analysis shows, Daniel (Ralph Macchio) is actually an aggressive, sociopathic little bully who keeps going after Johnny (William Zabka) despite the latter’s repeated attempts to leave confrontations. Sure, Johnny’s continued pursuit of Ali (Elizabeth Shue) is aggressive, but when it comes to Daniel, he’s not looking for a fight, and in the end their rivalry is all Daniels’ fault.
Is this video selectively edited and free from the context of the entire film? Maybe, but for the moment it definitely proves one thing: Barney Stinson Was Right.
