Rep. Steve King is a fascinating individual. His interpretation of the law seems to be much, much different than everyone else’s. At a recent event for Mike Huckabee, King introduced the presidential candidate, but also made sure to note that the legalization of same-sex marriage means you can marry inanimate objects, specifically a lawnmower, according to journalist Matt Taibbi.

For starters, the idea that two adults marrying each other could lead to people marrying their landscaping gear is ridiculous (and not even a joke about marrying a hoe?). But there’s a worse offense. According to Dickinson County News, King’s been doing the same bit since at least July 1st, shortly after the U.S. Supreme Court’s June 26th decision to legalize same-sex marriage.
The most recent retelling apparently overshadowed Huckabee at his own event, however, and Taibbi was delighted by all of it.
I feel like Huckabee made a concerted effort to get headlines with the 14th amendment idea but was one-upped by the lawnmower line.— Matt Taibbi (@mtaibbi) July 30, 2015
Quantity of gay lawnmower jokes trickling in overwhelming. Impossible not to laugh during Huck’s speech to frowning, mostly elderly audience— Matt Taibbi (@mtaibbi) July 30, 2015
