The calendar informs us the first day of summer is not until June 21, but the heat and the joyous vibes tell a different story. In celebration, we’ve assembled three classic summery shoots, each with a sunny outdoor focus, featuring three lovely Playmates for each of the summer months.
Hedy Scott, Miss June 1965, was born in Belgium and grew up around the world, laying roots in Paris, New York and St. Louis before settling down in Los Angeles. This raven-haired wonder was an instant success when she tried her hand at modeling and acting, but unlike the majority of her contemporaries she had no wish to be a celebrity—her modeling and work in TV and movies was just to pay her rent and the lease on her '56 T-Bird. Even though Hedy had no interest in fame, we’re ecstatic she chose to do Playboy as her sun-kissed shoot is everything summer should be.
Playmate of the Month for July 1959 was the beatnik beauty Yvette Vickers. This wild blonde with the impressive 36D bust was shot for Playboy by the famed filmmaker and lover of large breasts Russ Meyer. Yvette was born into the counterculture as the daughter of jazz musicians and she embraced the 1950s rebel spirit in the L.A. scene. As an actress she appeared in classics as diverse as the dark noir Sunset Boulevard and the campy thriller Attack of the 50 Foot Woman. For her Playboy pictorial she’s luminous and casually sexy in a shoot that illustrates the joys of a sweltering California July day.
Sharon Clark assembled an interesting résumé before posing for Playboy. A sociology graduate, she took a job reading manuscripts for a publisher of medical texts and then became a schoolteacher in the remote Micronesian archipelago of Truk. After these jobs she went on to modeling and acting, and you can see for yourself that modeling suited her well. As Miss August 1970 she shines as bright as the summer sun that lights up her luscious body in her photos.
