If you’ve ever been to Coachella, you know that it gets hot—like, “I’d rather be north of the wall surrounded by White Walkers” kind of hot. You also know that Coachella, is above all else—yes, even the music— a fashion show, a place for young Hollywood to channel its inner-hippie and hopefully make Monday’s round-ups of Indio’s best dressed. That means that while planning for the latter, you have to take the former into account. Micro-bikini tops: yes. Cotton ponchos: no.
Of course, these rules only apply to humans. And, over the weekend, Rihanna once again proved that she’s anything but human. The pop singer showed up to the festival in a full rhinestone-encrusted bodysuit complete with a balaclava that obscured her face.
The creation first appeared on Gucci’s Fall 2017 Runway, and was complemented by a tank top from the fashion house with the words “Common sense is not common" scrawled across the front in marker. Add the pair of sunglasses she wore over her face mask, and RiRi looked like a cross between the Invisble Man and the Silver Surfer.
But if you cover yourself in jewels and nobody sees it, did you really cover yourself in jewels? Rihanna wasn’t interested in finding out, and made sure the world saw her Coachella game. “I can’t go home yet, cuz enough people ain’t seen my outfit,” she wrote on Instagram. Leave it to Rihanna to steal Coachella without even signing a note.
