“The world is coming undone,” Forest Whitaker says at the beginning of the new Rogue One: A Star Wars Story trailer. “Imperial flags reign across the galaxy.”
With its downed X-Wing fighters and Storm Trooper hordes, Rogue One, opening in theaters on December 14, looks like it may be headed for one of those grim, sad-trombone endings. We know from Star Wars: A New Hope that rebel spies steal the plans for the Death Star and transmit them to Princess Leia, and we’ll find out in Rogue One—essentially a prequel to Star Wars: A New Hope—if they get out alive. We’ll also find out if the Darth Vader appearance is a cameo or something meatier, and whether K-2SO, the too-tall droid with no sense of humor, is the new BB-8 or the new Jar Jar Binks.
For now, here’s the trailer, which debuted last night.
