Speedy Ortiz singer-guitarist Sadie Dupuis and Minneapolis rapper Lizzo (she of the outstanding 2013 single “Batches and Cookies”) have teamed up to produce “Basement Queens,” which the pair wrote together about creative control and just generally being bosses. The song, bristling with ideas deftly marshalled by producer Computer Magic, is Dupuis’ first single under her newly launched solo project Sad13.

Before the two artists communicated via Google Docs and Google Chat, they’d never even met in person. A video revealing their songwriting process will have you wondering why your last Google Docs “collaboration” likely produced something less than a rousing duet by two of the coolest indie artists working today.
