When English writer Charles Caleb Colton observed that imitation is the most sincerest form of flattery, robotic humanoid replicas weren’t even on the horizon. But, hey, maybe Scarlett Johansson is totally flattered that a man built a functional life-size robot version of her.
With no formal training robotics or electrical engineering—let that sink in a moment—42-year-old product and graphic designer Ricky Ma still built an entire robot babe, which he named Mark 1. It had been his dream since childhood to built a robot. So he 3D printed 70% of Mark 1’s body, which is no easy task to learn or do whatsoever. You don’t just push a button and speak into a microphone naming the item you want created. It was a challenging trial-and-error process.
MA: “I figured I should just do it when the timing is right and realize my dream. If I realize my dream, I will have no regrets in life. During this process, a lot of people would say things like, ‘Are you stupid? This takes a lot of money. Do you even know how to do it? It’s really hard.’ When you look at everything together, it was really difficult.”
The moral of the story here is to not give up on your dreams, especially if one of them is to built your own babe.
