When it comes to government-sanctioned methods for exploiting the poor and ignorant (myself included on both counts), the lottery is by far the most fun! Now, officials in North Carolina have found a way to make a good thing (which is also kind of an awful thing) even better with scratch ‘n sniff BBQ-scented lottery tickets.

Lottery officials will unveil their new BBQ Bucks scratch-off tickets Tuesday at Clyde Cooper’s Barbecue in downtown Raleigh and at Queen City Q in Charlotte. The $2 scratch-and-sniff tickets will bring a chance to win up to $25,000 and to enter a secondary drawing for one of 10 prizes of 100 pounds of pork and a Big Green Egg to grill it on.

As it turns out, North Carolina is not the first state to experiment with scented tickets. According to the Charlotte Observer, Colorado sells coffee and bouquet scented scratchers, while Texas, Florida, and Missouri boast chocolate tickets. Nebraska recently released a Sriracha-scented option, while New Hampshire and Indiana both offer bacon-scented cards.

Personally, I’m a more refined lotto player… a lotto aficionado, if you will. So I prefer to play Mega Millions and Powerball instead of the scratch cards (I know they have even worse odds than scratchers. I’m smart like that). But if they ever offer a card that smells like Candice Swanepoel’s yoga pants, I’m all in.

Yeah, that’s a gross joke. But I’m on a deadline and this is a men’s magazine. What do you want? Don’t judge me! Don’t you dare judge me!
