Wait…Sex Doesn’t Sell?

We’ve often stated and restated the maxim “sex sells” and we’ve even illustrated the truth of it with examples of sex being used to sell hamburgers, body spray and vegetarianism. Does it work? It sure seems to! But there’s one field where using lascivious suggestion doesn’t work: charity.

Two new studies from the University of Queensland show that charities that use sex to get their message out, like PETA’s sex- and nudity-laced ads to go vegan, or sexy boob-filled breast cancer awareness campaigns, are a turn-off to their audiences.
