Americans love to claim that their part of the country is the best. Whether it’s the food or the tourist attractions, everyone has one thing they point to as superior to the rest. One of those things is intelligence. Those fancy East Coast liberal-types like to think they’re smarter than the good wholesome people of the South. Well, according to the Washington Post, they’re actually right.

After Donald Trump called the people of Iowa stupid at a recent campaign rally, the newspaper decided to publish some statistics on the smartest (and dumbest) states in America. Turns out Iowa is actually the eighth smartest state. Here’s a map showing how all the states did:

Unfortunately if you’re from one of the light-colored states, you probably have no idea what this damn map means! So we’ll simplify it for you less sophisticated folks: Dark red means good, yellow means bad.

The four categories the Washington Post used were IQ scores, SAT scores, ACT Scores and the percentage of college graduates in each state. I’d argue they should’ve included things such as “number of people who wear glasses” and “amount of Apple Stores per capita,” but apparently they didn’t want to go too in-depth.

Clearly these statistics are wrong because Mississippi didn’t finish in last.
