One viral University of Alabama sorority video is getting a lot of attention–but not for the reason its creators intended.
After the school’s Alpha Phi chapter published a four-minute recruitment video of its mostly blonde, mostly white members running around campus in bikinis and smiling, one writer took to AL.com to say she felt it was “worse for women than Donald Trump.” In her post, A.L. Bailey said:
It’s a parade of white girls and blonde hair dye, coordinated clothing, bikinis and daisy dukes, glitter and kisses, bouncing bodies, euphoric hand-holding and hugging, gratuitous booty shots, and matching aviator sunglasses. It’s all so racially and aesthetically homogeneous and forced, so hyper-feminine, so reductive and objectifying, so Stepford Wives: College Edition. It’s all so … unempowering.
The sorority has since removed the video from YouTube and all social media platforms, and the university has publicly condemned it.
