The first craft beer made from seawater can replenish your electrolytes after exercise—and possibly stave off hangovers. Er Boquerón, a pale, golden ale made in Spain, contains seawater collected from the Mediterranean near Valencia. Producer La Socarrada continually monitors the area to extract water rich with rehydrating minerals such as sodium, zinc, magnesium and potassium.
The 4.8-percent-ABV beer is double-fermented and contains only four ingredients: seawater, barley malt, hops and yeast. The brewer does not use gas, filtration or pasteurization during the process. And instead of tasting salty, the beer supposedly tastes light and refreshing and smells of the sea. Er Boquerón pairs well with tapas or post-workout protein.
