The first trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming dropped Thursday night, showing audiences the one thing that had been missing from all the previous attempts to bring Marvel’s wall-crawling superhero to the big screen: Iron Man.
Of course, there was more to differentiate Jon Watts’ new take on the character than the presence of Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark—who apparently takes Peter Parker under his wing in the new movie, provoking a mixture of awe and frustration from the teenage hero. The new trailer also showed a more relaxed, less angst-ridden side to Peter’s high school life, with Tom Holland making him seem more like a regular teenager than a deep soul who listens to too much Neutral Milk Hotel.
Also on show in the teaser, which debuted on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live: Michael Keaton, who follows his lead role in the critically acclaimed Birdman with another avian-themed character, this time playing longtime comic book foe the Vulture. Oh, and the Avengers show up… kind of.
Spider-Man: Homecoming will arrive in theaters July 7, 2017.
