Kate Upton, who is featured on the issue’s three covers, told USA Today the experience meant a lot to her. “This issue of the magazine is really inspiring for me, because it’s all about women of every shape and size showing their confidence at every age. Christie Brinkley’s in the magazine! So to have women embrace their bodies, love their bodies and feel confident in that no matter what size they are is great to have in this industry.”

Myla Dalbesio wrote an essay for Sports Illustrated about what posing for the Swimsuit Issue meant to her as a feminist, and in it, she wrote, “Women are powerful and sexual beings, and we don’t need society to dictate when it is okay to express that.”
