Stephen Colbert Brilliantly Mocks Donald Trump’s Presidential Announcement

When Stephen Colbert announced last year that he’d be leaving The Colbert Report to take over The Late Show from David Letterman, fans were torn. We’ll still get to see Stephen Colbert several nights a week, but we’ll no longer see Stephen Colbert, the absurd political caricature that Colbert built into both one of the funniest characters on TV and a vehicle for some real commentary on American culture.

Well, he may not be playing a character night after night anymore, but Colbert clearly hasn’t lost his taste for political lampooning. He proved it yesterday by releasing a video response to Donald Trump’s long and strange announcement of his presidential bid. With his hair smushed into an imitation of Trump’s famous headrug, Colbert assured everyone that, while Trump isn’t necessarily the best thing for America, he is definitely the best thing for late night TV hosts looking for jokes about the 2016 election. Also, something about the economy and hats…

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert premieres September 8 on CBS.
