This week’s trailer roundup is an interesting mix of prestige dramas, animation, and a truly dysfunctional comedy from Jay Duplass. So let’s dive in, shall we?
THE BIG SHORT
Writer/director Adam McKay is best known for comedies like Anchorman and Talladega Night, but this year he’s turning to drama with The Big Short. McKay’s taking a very big swing with this drama, which takes on the true story of the people who uncovered the bad loans that tanked the American economy in 2008. It looks fascinating.
Cate Blanchett, Robert Redford, Dennis Quaid and more team up to tell the true of the Killian documents scandal that disgraced legendary CBS anchor Dan Rather (Redford) and his award-winning producer Mary Mapes (Blanchett). We just can’t stop obsesseing about the Bush era, but this movie might just be worth it.
THE GOOD DINOSAUR
Pixar’s already convinced us with past trailers for this film that they’ll be able to make us cry with cartoon dinosaurs. It’s just that this time we actually get to hear the dinosaurs talk.
A MANSON FAMILY VACATION
Jay Duplass (co-creator of HBO’s Togetherness) is just a normal husband and dad who’s living a normal life until his estranged brother (Linas Phillips) arrives in town and reveals his bizarre and all-consuming obsession with Charles Manson. This looks completely messed up, but in a very fun way.
Yes, this movie is still really happening, and yes you need to watch this trailer, if only for the surreal experience of watching three-dimensional Charlie Brown shenanigans set to The Who’s “Baba O'Riley.”
