While riding his bike, this guy witnessed a weird light in the sky. Originally, he thought it was part of Haarp, a government research program. Or maybe even something stranger than that (like ALIENS!!!)

But after some research, we’re pretty sure what he saw was something a little more scientific. According to experts, this rare phenomenon happens when ice crystals form on the surface of a cumulonimbus cloud and hold a static charge. When the cloud moves into an electric field, the charge feels a force and aligns along the field. While it does this, light from the crystals are sometimes reflected. Pretty cool, right?

Sorry X-Files fans, we were hoping it was an alien encounter too.
