6 Must-Have Items From Target’s New Menswear Collaboration: Target

Target is no stranger to designer collaborations, having worked with names like Jason Wu (Michelle Obama wore a dress from the collection), Rodarte, and Alexander McQueen. But for the most part, the partnerships have focused on women. (Snowboarder/skateboarder/rock star Shaun White has worked with Target for a long time, but his products focus primarily on kids.)

Well, guys aren’t going to get screwed out of having well-designed items at reasonable prices any longer. Yesterday, Target launched Target Collective, its first curated collection designed for guys. Target partnered with Billykirk, Owen & Fred, Taylor Stitch, Duluth Pack, Locally Grown, and Terrapin on finely crafted products that are all made in the U.S. and range in price from $8 to $270.

Target Collective consists of nearly 90 items, ranging from clothes to accessories, and given the price points, you could probably justify buying it all. But, in case you want a more curated selection, we picked out the six must-have pieces.

1. BILLYKIRK LEATHER KEYCHAIN

The founders of Billykirk, brothers Kirk and Chris Bray, are renowned for their hand-tooled leather goods. This leather keychain looks good out of the box, but the more you beat it up and break it in, the more personality it will take on. Prepare to own this for the next decade, at least.

2. DULUTH PACK MARKET TOTE

Minnesota-based Duluth Pack has been making bags for more than a 100 years, so they’ve figured out what works. This tote bag has a water-resistant waxed canvas body that can hold everything from your gym clothes to your laptop to some groceries. Its adjustable leather straps make it easy to wear the bag over your shoulder or carry it in your hands.

3. LOCALLY GROWN ROOSTER T-SHIRT

It isn’t easy to justify wearing a cock on your shirt, but since the mission of Locally Grown is to get people to eat fresher foods from local producers, we can get on board. Plus, the heather blue tee is a great color for spring and feels incredibly soft.

“Delightfully smart ass” is a good way to describe the products from Brooklyn-based Owen & Fred. Founded by Michael Arnot the brand focuses on quality items, done in a fun way. That is immediately apparent with this “This Is Not Your Bag” luggage tag, which is made of vegetable tanned leather and secures to your bag with a stainless steel cable.

5. TAYLOR STITCH WASHED OXFORD SHIRT

Taylor Stitch was started by some friends in San Francisco looking to make the perfect button up, and they may have figured it out. Their oxford shirt has a tailored fit that looks sharp in formal and casual occasions and is made with rugged oxford cloth.

6. TERRAPIN “COOL STORY BRO” CARDS

The handwritten note is a lost art, but it doesn’t have to be. It also doesn’t have to be some stuffy missive straight out of an Edith Wharton novel. Terrapin’s line of stationary captures the sensibilities of the digital age and marries them elegantly to an analog one. These “Cool story bro” cards are so, welp, cool, that you’ll have no choice but to go in search of stamps.
