V.I.P: Those three golden letters that can elevate pretty much any experience from meh to memorable. But there are a select few experiences—available only to a select few—that take the concept of “VIP” treatment to entirely another level. From sports events to music festivals to fine dining, we’ve curated the most lavish, over-the-top VIP packages from around the world to see how the one-percenters live…and frivolously blow their cash.
NAME: Tequila Avion
SUPERLATIVE: The World’s Most Expensive Tasting Flight
WHAT PUSHES IT OVER THE TOP: Usually, when you get a flight of spirits, it’s an array of glasses with some samplings of delicious booze. Nothing wrong with that at all—but that’s not enough for some people. To cater to these discerning drinkers, Tequila Avión has decided to go all literal with the idea of a flight. So, the world’s priciest tasting flight doesn’t revolve around cognac or fine wine, but instead premium, small-batch tequila at the Avion distillery in Jalisco, Mexico—where participants will travel via private jet with 10 members of their entourage, with Tequila Avion founder Ken Austin leading the expedition.
When the revelers land there’s a private tour of the distillery and tequila tasting with Austin and master distiller Alejandro Lopez. Avion pairs the spirit with a gourmet meal by chef Josh Capon of New York’s El Toro Blanco and a three-day stay at luxe Las Alamandas Resort. While in Mexico, guests will get to harvest their picks from Avion’s agave fields and select the barrel that will age their own custom tequila to be shipped two years later. But rich people are not about waiting. Everyone on the trip will also tote home a customized bottle of never-released tequila from Austin’s personal stash.
And for the tequila lover who has everything, there’s more. No need to bring the selfie stick, as Tequila Avion will provide not only a personal photographer, but also a “social media documentarian” to make sure the Mexican adventure lives on in online infamy. Because what’s the point of money if you can’t let people know about it? Luckily, pitchforks and torches will be kept at bay with private security detail and a 24-hour, on-call butler, both of which are also part of the deal.
Just one question: Who gets the gilded worm?
