In The Spy Who Loved Me, James Bond uses a car that can transform itself into a submarine. Turns out the Tesla Model S can do the same exact thing (sort of).
A clever driver explored the Model S’s firmware and found out users have the ability to change the display image of the car in the Air Suspension settings to the Lotus Esprit Roger Moore in the 1977 Bond classic.
Tesla founder and eccentric billionaire Elon Musk is a well-known fan of the franchise as well as the car itself. In 2013 he purchased the Lotus Esprit used in The Spy Who Loved Me for nearly $900,000. He originally wanted to turn it into a working vehicle, but apparently had to settle for this easter egg.
Want to see how it’s done? Check out the video below:
Here’s the quick version: Hold down the Tesla button until it asks for you to enter an access code. Enter “007.” Then you’re done! Go to the Suspension settings and you can change your depth all the way to 20,000 leagues.
If you’re driving a Tesla, you’re already trying to feel like James Bond. This just gives you a little extra boost.
