In the wake of the Supreme Court’s impending decision on gay marriage in the USA, conservative Texas Pastor Rick Scarborough threatened to set himself aflame if the rights of the LGBTQ community were recognized by stating that “We’re simply being pre-emptive and saying, no matter what the cost, we are not going to bow, we are not going to bend, and we will burn.”

Despite his offer, the Supreme Court issued a landmark ruling Friday that re-affirmed the rights of millions of LGBTQ Americans to marry as an extension of their existing constitutional freedoms.

So now, it seems that confronted with the possibility of becoming the center of Texan BBQ, the good Father Scarborough is singing a slightly different tune to radio station KYFO:

“I made that comment to paraphrase a spiritual song, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in which the three were given a choice—to bow to the image of Nebucahdnezzar or burn in a furnace,” said Scarborough.”‘We will burn’ means that we will accept any sanction from the government for resisting [Friday’s] Supreme Court decision. We do not support any violence or physical harm.”

If you listen closely, you can hear the squeaking wheels of a man in Texas that’s backpedaling as quickly as he possibly can.
