On the superhero movie front, we’ve spent most of the backend of 2015 talking about two things: Captain America: Civil War and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Today, Fox – the studio that controls both the thriving X-Men franchise and the not-so-thriving Fantastic Four – would like to remind you that they’ve got some big guns, too.

This morning, the studio dropped the first trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse. This time around, Professor Xavier (James McAvoy), Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) and company are teaming up with a new generation of mutants (most notably Game of Thrones’ Sophie Turner as a young Jean Grey) to take on the greatest threat they’ve ever faced: Apocalypse (an unrecognizable Oscar Isaac), the Original Mutant, who’s bent on destroying the world and rebuilding it in his image with the almost unlimited power at his command. Fans of the X-Men comics know that Apocalypse is so powerful that he basically can’t be killed – only forced into hibernation – so the X-Men will absolutely have their hands full, particularly with Magneto (Michael Fassbender) once again going bad as one of Apocalypse’s all-powerful Four Horsemen.

X-Men: Apocalypse arrives May 27, 2016.
