Hey, remember a few years back when Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law took Sherlock Holmes and made it into a sexy, set piece-packed blockbuster that was more about action than mystery? Well, someone decided to do that with Frankenstein, and the result is Victor Frankenstein, a new film in which the titular Mad Scientist (a very un-mad-looking, well-dressed James McAvoy) and his assistant Igor (a very un-hunchbacked Daniel Radcliffe) create a creature that seems to mostly produce lots of explosions and chase scenes. In all seriousness, it looks like it could be a lot of fun, even if the film — written by Chronicle’s Max Landis — bears little resemblance to the playing God parable that is Mary Shelley’s novel.
Oh, and how dare they steal that Young Frankenstein joke?! You have to earn those Mel Brooks gags, McAvoy.
Victor Frankenstein is in theaters this Thanksgiving.
