The truth of the matter is this: there is, without a shadow of a doubt, other intelligent lifeforms in our universe … or there was … or there will be, and we will never meet them.
The universe is just too big to travel, even while traveling at light speed, it would still take thousands of years and vast amounts of energy to get anywhere. Even if intelligent beings can travel in ways we can’t yet imagine, they’re more likely to destroy themselves or die off naturally over millions of years than they are to make contact with us.
Bummed out a little? Don’t thank me, thank Enrico Fermi and this incredibly interesting video about the Fermi paradox, put together by our friends over at Kurz Gesagt.
