Science Says…

Sex Makes Life Better

We’ve said it before, we’ll say it again: sex makes life better. Which is like saying Rihanna stays slayin’. Some things are obvious as the sun in the sky. This week, science once again proved what we all know. But how exactly does sex make our lives better?

According to this study from researchers from Oregon State University, published in the Journal of Management sex greatly improves your work life. In fact, it improves your whole day. The work-focused study examined the sex lives of married employees, 159 people to be exact. Participants were asked to keep a sex diary for two weeks. A clear pattern emerged from the data. Regardless of how well they slept, or how happy they were with their spouse, if they had sex the participants reported “increased positive affect at work the following day.” In fact, those feelings lasted 24 hours. There you have it, science reconfirms: sex is still the best thing we got going for us. But, one question was left unanswered: Does sex with yourself count? Guess that could be a follow-up study.

But If That’s True…

Why Are Adults Having Less Sex These Days?

If science keeps discovering new reasons why sex is so good for us, if we know an orgasm a day is one of the healthiest things you can do for yourself, why are we having less sex than adults did twenty years ago? Remember all those articles last year about how millennials are having less sex? That same team of researchers is back with a new study and would you look at that…it turns out it’s not just millennials having less sex.

The same pattern was reported “across gender, race, region, educational level, and work status.” Apparently everyone’s enjoying fewer orgasms. Americans, on average, have sex nine fewer times per year than adults averaged in the 1990s. Guess who has more sex than others: people who watch porn. Sounds like we all need to, um, prime the pump a little more often.

Since we know sex makes life better. Let’s make all our lives better. Everyone, let’s turn these numbers around. Let’s make 2017 the year we all have more sex.

Female Lust

What Do You Mean Women Watch More Porn?

This week there was a curious story in the news about porn and hockey. Some people didn’t know what to think. Down in Perth, Australia, a woman’s field hockey team agreed to let Pornhub be its new sponsor. Some felt that conflated women and sex in a sexist way, one that wouldn’t happen to a men’s hockey team. But what those people may not know is women watch more porn on their phones than men do. Yes, you read that right. If anything, Pornhub’s smartly trying to grab the attention of a big section of their audience: women.

We often fail to appreciate the full depth and breadth of female lust. Women like and desire sex just as much, if not more so, than men. Definitely not less. Many of our our assumptions about women’s inner lives are wrong, but especially when it comes to sex. Example: Muslim women.

There’s a new art exhibit in London called Radical Love: Female Lust in the Arab World. Inspired by an erotic poem from the 11th century, the organizers of the exhibition focused on young Muslim female artists and their depictions of female lust in the Arab world. Our world is so much more interesting when we see it for how it really it is, and how we really are.

Women’s History Month

Q: Where Would We Be Without Women? A: Nowhere.

March is Women’s History Month in America. On March 8th, around the world, people celebrate International Women’s Day. This year, in the spirit of our times, the day was marked by protests, such as A Day Without A Woman, as well as other marches that advocated female empowerment. Through it all one message was loud and clear: Respect women. If anyone has trouble understanding what that means, show them this pithy tweet from Arab-German filmmaker Lexi Alexander.

This Week in WTF?!

“You Can’t Have Sex With That, Sir!”

Week in and week out, without fail, humans will leave you scratching your head trying to make sense of why someone in the news tried to have sex with… well, pretty much anything. This week was extra special. Here’s a round-up things people wanted to fuck but really shouldn’t have.

But I Thought Dogs Hate the Mailman?

Somewhere in Minnesota, a mailman was making his rounds when he became overcome with desire. But he didn’t sleep with a housewife or house-husband. No. He got caught having sex with a dog on his route. WTF.

Was It a Wooden Fence…or One of Those Hurricane Fences?

Can you imagine being the cop who had to fill out this police report? At 11:25 a.m., in broad daylight, a man in Texas was caught having sex with a fence. If you’re wondering, it was a chain-link fence. But wait, it gets better. A witness reported that the man performed cunnilingus on the fence before he pulled out his penis and penetrated the chain link. What a considerate lover. Too bad having sex with a fence in public is illegal. Otherwise, he seemed to be doing it right. Foreplay is key. You want the fence to feel relaxed.

Bless Me Father for I Have Sinned…Last Night, at the Orgy, You Held Here in Church”

Man, the Catholic Church is having a real hard time with their priests. No pun intended. Recently, they’ve been embarrassed by stories of priests arranging orgies in churches, running prostitution rings and filming porn shoots, none of which is exactly kosher with the Cardinals. As Pope Francis considers whether to let married men become priests, he should also make sure the current priests are providing holy services not drilling glory holes.
