Funny Bone

Women Orgasm More If You’re Funny

In an annual review, the Kinsey Institute was happy to confirm that the female orgasm definitely exists. Upon hearing this news, billions of women around the world gave the announcement some side-eye. Look, just because men aren’t the best at coaxing them doesn’t mean we need to question if women’s orgasms exist. But hey, that’s where we’re at when it comes to the science of the female orgasm. As scientists attempt to close our culture’s orgasm gap, expect more studies about pleasure, like this one from researchers at the University of Albany. They studied how women’s orgasms affect their choice of mates.

What did they find? If her partner was attractive, confident and wealthy, a woman was more likely to orgasm. But don’t jump to any sexist conclusions. The study also found that as women often like to point out that men who make them laugh are super sexy. Finally, science confirms this. Women climaxed more intensely and more often if they felt the man had a strong sense of humor. The most widely reported finding is the most obvious: Women don’t need to feel love to experience an orgasm. Hearing this news, women around the world tried not to bruise their eyeballs from rolling them—again. You know, it’s like scientists are almost ready to conclude that women are fully-formed humans with desires of their own.

The Rhythm Method

Music Makes Sex Feel Better

Examining sex through a different lens, Northwestern University researcher Adam Safron recently published a paper in the journal Socioaffective Neuroscience and Psychology to answer why sex feels so good. Safron wanted to look past just the climax of an orgasm and at the whole experience. His findings come down to one word: entrainment.

Sounds kinky, right? But it refers to those moments in life when your mind-body connection is fully focused on the rise and fall of sensation and the anticipation of more stimulation. Think of it like the trance quality that occurs when music takes hold of you. Or when you’re in the zone performing a physical task at a very high level. That’s entrainment. And supposedly it’s why sex can feel better sometimes versus others. It’s about complete and total submersion in the moment. You want that—just ask our girl Rihanna.

Hard Science

Tattoos Turn Women On, but Now How You’d Think

Good news for the dudes with full sleeves: women find your skin art sexy. But not for the reasons you think. This week in Hard Science, Debra W. Soh checks the data that matters on how sexy is a man with body ink.

Women reported that men sporting tattoos appeared to be more healthy, but this did not affect how attractive they found inked-out dudes. The ones who rated the tatted men more attractive were actually the straight men, not women, who participated in the study. That suggests that tattoos serve two functions: they signal a man’s better health to women and, like other male displays in nature, tattoos intimidate male rivals. This may be why Adam Levine has so many. He’s almost at the point of intimidating a male rival. Almost.

Meet Josey Auguste. Have you checked her Playboy photoshoot yet? We bet she’s the kind of lady who puts you in the mood for a cuddle—and not just because she’s sexy AF. Most men, despite not wanting to admit it, enjoy a good cuddle. Those little moments of intimacy, after all, are often what we miss most after a breakup. But some of us aren’t good at something so simple. That’s why, after his ex left him, writer Joshua Fruhlinger visited a professional cuddler to see if she could help him with his cuddle game. After hugging it out with his professional cuddler, Fruhlinger learned that, “Cuddling is in our genes.”

This Week in WTF?!

An Airline Executive Handled His Business at Work and an Italian Priest Arranged Orgies the Church

Sex at work. It sounds like some naughty fun, right? But as with all things, it’s not so much what you do, but how you do it. These are some truly WTF examples of people pushing the concept of “sex at work.”

First up, the Mile High Club is a fun club to join. But what about an airline exec who masturbates in the office? Not so sexy. That’s exactly what this Delta employee did—and in full view of two female co-workers to boot. He was handling his business at work, only it was the wrong kind of business. Plot twist: When the women reported his inappropriate behavior, they were the ones who were fired. WTF?! We imagine as this story goes viral, Delta may rethink its decision.

You never expect these words to appear in one headline: “Catholic Priest Pimps 15 Women, Arranges Orgies In Church.” But that’s the story out of Padua, Italy. A 48-year-old priest, Father Andrea Contin, was allegedly “farming out some of his lovers to men on wife-swapping websites.” The priest also allegedly accompanied his many female friends and lovers to visit nudist and swinger resorts in the south of France. He was also an amateur filmmaker and allegedly made pornographic home videos which he kept hidden in fake covers marked with the names of popes. So far, he’s yet to be arrested. One wonders, as a priest, is he allowed to just forgive himself?
