Time-Controlling Action Game ‘Quantum Break’ Has a Cast of TV Stars

You’d be forgiven if you were to confuse Quantum Break with a TV show—it’s absolutely bristling with big-name talent.

Thanks to a new trailer from Germany’s Gamescom convention this week, we’ve got a much better sense of what the third-person shooter will be like. We also know, in broad strokes, what the story might be: players take on the role of Ice Man (Shawn Ashmore from The Following and X-Men: First Class), who can manipulate time, as he fights Littlefinger (Game of Thrones’ Aidan Gillen), who can also manipulate time, after Littlefinger killed Ice Man’s brother, Charlie from Lost (Dominic Monaghan of Lord of the Rings fame). Also Lance Reddick (The Wire, Destiny) is there, being a general badass.

Quantum Break was first announced alongside the Xbox One back in 2013, but new details have been kind of sparse since then. That might be because the idea behind Quantum Break was originally to mix a video game with a live-action TV show—a chunk of Microsoft’s grandiose plans to do a bunch of Xbox One TV programming that didn’t pan out.

As the trailer shows, though, the live action stuff is still in there, which means Quantum Break might still be an interesting experiment in video game narrative. It’s probably also an interesting experiment in budget-breaking actor casting, too.
