Tinashe has been in the entertainment industry since she was only a few years old, but the critically-acclaimed singer, actress and music producer still hasn’t broken through as a star. In a new interview with The Guardian, she talks about the challenges she and other women face in the music industry.
The 24-year-old taught herself Pro Tools using YouTube tutorials to make her first mixtape, but she says she doesn’t get much respect from her colleagues when she’s in the recording studio. “There’s a lot of sexism in the music business. A lot of sexism. As far as female producers or female engineers … when you’re in these studios, it’s all men. It is so rare that they’d not even expect me to have an opinion.”
Tinashe’s technical skills aren’t all she has going for her. She also happens to be gorgeous, and she isn’t shy about showing off her body. She posed for Playboy in 2015, was featured on the Britney Spears’ track (and in the sultry music video) “Slumber Party” in November, and released a smokin’ hot video of her own, “Company,” in January. As for when Joyride, her next album, will be released, Tinashe isn’t sure. She told The Guardian she is still working on it. She also revealed that the background image on her phone is a photo of a Grammy, and that she’s going to keep it that way until she has a real Grammy of her own. “However long it takes, I know I will get to my end goal.”
We hope she’ll have new music out soon, but in the meantime, we recommend following Tinashe on Instagram, where she regularly posts pics like these:
