In general, pickup lines don’t work. But Reddit user FoxCutt has figured out how to exploit a glitch in the Tinder matrix that leaves female users excited to hear them. He calls it The Pickup Line Game.
The rules are simple. A woman is offered a choice of three emoji doors, each of which corresponds to a cheesy pickup line. The door they choose determines which joke is told.
If it sounds stupid, that’s because it is. But it’s also brilliant. While most users would probably ignore a random pickup line, the interactive nature of the game compels women to respond, even though they know the pickup line will be lame. It’s essentially clickbait.
Turning it into a game also acknowledges that pickup lines are awful, resulting in a sense of ironic detachment that puts FoxCutt above the fray.
“It sets me up to say certain things and blame it on the door,” Foxcutt explained in the comment section. “Well Shannon looks like you chose the raunchy door! Screw me if I’m wrong, but haven’t we met before?”
It’s the perfect icebreaker! But don’t take his word for it. See for yourself.
Of course, there’s nothing keeping a woman from ignoring him after she’s heard the joke. But just getting your foot in the door is half the battle.
Also, it’s possible that it took him 800 tries to get this many responses. But whatever. I’m desperate to believe that “this one weird trick” really works!
