Jay Z may have made the Yankee cap more famous than a Yankee can, but designer Todd Snyder just made it more stylish and winter-friendly. The brand recently released a collection of limited edition New York Yankees hats in collaboration with New Era that add a rare level of refinement to the traditional lid.
While baseball is America’s pasttime, Todd Snyder went to England to source the material for the cap. The wool is dyed, spun, and woven at Abraham Moon & Sons Mill in Guiseley, West Yorkshire. The mill has been in operation since 1837 and is one of the oldest still in operation. The hats come in four colors. There is a brown and a dark grey herringbone and a light grey and a navy tweed. All of them would look as tasteful on a sportcoat as they do on a baseball cap.
Because of the upgraded materials, the caps also have an upgraded cost, coming in at $68 on ToddSnyder.com. The hats are only available for the Yankees, which will surely cause a bit of consternation among Red Sox fans. Of course, Bronx Bombers die hards will point to their 27 World Series titles, and Red Sox Nation will respond with “What have you done lately?” and on and on the circle of life will continue.
