Tourists at a beach in Argentina are being blamed for the death of a baby dolphin that was pulled from the water and forced to pose for selfies. According to Yahoo! News, the animal was passed around by a mob of beachgoers with camera phones before being left for dead on land, eventually succumbing to “dehydration and overheating from exposure to the sun.”

“This serves to inform the public about the urgent necessity to return these dolphins to the sea as soon as possible,” a spokesperson for the Argentine Wildlife Foundation (AWF) said in regard to the animal’s death.

The incident, which took place at the Santa Teresita beach in Buenos Aires, has been met with heavy criticism from social media users. Then again, everything is met with heavy criticism from social media users. That said, if the story is accurate, it’s hard not to be disgusted.

The British band Real Lies even claims to be boycotting Argentina until the people responsible for the dolphin’s death are prosecuted.

Of course a Real Lies boycott might not mean all that much since the band’s current schedule only features two shows, both of which are in England. My dog boycotting Argentina would probably have the same effect. But hopping on the righteous indignation bandwagon earned them at least a little bit of free publicity, so kudos to them!

In closing, I wonder how that dentist who killed Cecil the Lion is doing?
