HBO put an end to the seemingly unending True Detective casting rumors Tuesday by confirming that actors Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn have officially signed on to star in the award winning-show’s second season, set to begin production in California this fall.

The network’s bare bones announcement tells us season two will differ from the first not just because of the new cast, but in that the story revolves around three police officers and a criminal, rather than just the two detectives featured in season one. Farrell will play compromised detective Ray Velcoro while Vince Vaughn is set as career criminal Frank Semyon.

Now even though this news takes the wind out of the sails of the old casting rumor mill, the fact that there are two other officers involved in the storyline leaves room for more speculation.
