Here’s a Visual Representation of Every Type of Hot Dog on Earth

Americans love to argue about who makes the best hot dog. New Yorkers like their onion sauce. Chicagoans like their peppers, chopped tomatoes, mustard and (and this cannot be emphasized enough) NO KETCHUP. And while other cities, like Seattle or Denver, also have their own takes on the hot dog, it’s really foreign countries that are taking this “American” staple into creative directions. Or sometimes just flat out weird (We’re looking at you Japan!)

The folks over at Food Republic made an awesome chart showing how cities and countries around the world make their hot dogs. Apparently there’s more than one way to make a Chile dog.

I don’t know what the Philippines are doing, but you need a bun. That’s the bare definition of a hot dog.

Now we just need someone to go around the world trying each of these hot dogs and documenting it Anthony Bourdain-style. Just…don’t look up how they’re made. You’ll definitely lose your appetite.

Joseph Misulonas is an editorial assistant for Playboy.com. He grew up in Chicago, so, yeah, he’s had a few hot dogs in his life. He can be found on Twitter at @jmisulonas.
