Uniqlo Is Bringing Back Its +J Collaboration. Here’s Why You Should Buy It All

Uniqlo Is Bringing Back Its +J Collaboration. Here’s Why You Should Buy It All : Uniqlo

Uniqlo

It’s hard to believe that we are already far enough into the lifecycle of fast fashion brands collaborating with high-fashion designers that the early collections now generate enough nostalgia to prompt reissues. In 2009, Uniqlo launched a collaboration with Jil Sander that was called +J. Now select items from those original collections are being brought back this spring. It’s kind of like a musician releasing a greatest hits collection. It’s also great news for your wardrobe.

Jil Sander is known for its minimalist designs, tailored fits, and attention to detail. And the +J collection with Uniqlo features those same trademarks. The difference is that a +J blazer costs $149.90, while a Jil Sander jacket can easily set you back $1,000.

The clean aesthetic makes it ideal for work. You could buy two blazers, three shirts, and two pairs of pants for less than $700 and assemble an entire week’s worth of outfits since all the pieces mix and match well together.

To help you pull off that versatile office wardrobe hack, here are the pieces you’ll need:

UNIQLO +J LIGHTWEIGHT JACKET
$149.90, uniqlo.com
Why you need it: Because a khaki sport coat goes with everything and instantly adds a touch of refinement.
The +J lightweight jacket is the ideal weight for spring. The back is unlined so that when you take it off, your back won’t look like a sweaty mess. Throw it over a T-shirt for a more casual look or pair it with a button down if you need something more formal. It is machine washable so you don’t have to worry about taking it to the dry cleaner.

UNIQLO +J WOOL JACKET
$179.90, uniqlo.com
Why you need it: Because you never know when you need a blazer
Whether you forgot a meeting with an important client or the boss surprises you with a call to his office, it’s always a good idea to keep a blazer by your workspace for those times when you need to clean up your look in a hurry. The navy wool +J blazer isn’t too hot and matches with any shirt you wear under it so you can throw it on with confidence.

UNIQLO +J SLIM FIT SHIRT
$49.90, uniqlo.com
Why you need it: Because you can never have enough white shirts
Much like the never ending search for the perfect T-shirt, there is a quest for the ideal white button down. This version gets pretty close. It has a trim silhouette, but it’s not so tight that it feels painted on. Button the top button for a stark, modern look, or unbutton it for a more relaxed vibe, or wear it with a tie. Either way, you will look sharp.

UNIQLO +J SLIM FIT SHIRT
$49.90, uniqlo.com
Why you need it: Because you can’t wear a white shirt every day
As versatile as the white shirt can be, it’s good to throw in some color every now and then, if for no other reason than to show your co-workers that you own more than one shirt. This +J oxford has a pale blue that is the perfect color for spring and is just as multi-functional as the white version.

UNIQLO +J DENIM SLIM FIT SHIRT
$49.90, uniqlo.com
Why you need it: Because denim isn’t just for jeans
The term “casual Friday” calls to mind awful pleated khakis and oversized golf shirts, but it doesn’t have to be that way. This denim button down is a great option. You can wear it on its own or layered underneath one of the blazers. It’s also one of those shirts that transitions seamlessly from work to post-work drinks to dinner to who knows what.

Uniqlo

Uniqlo

UNIQLO +J FLAT FRONT PANTS
$79.90, uniqlo.com
Why you need it: Because you can’t wear sweatpants to work
Like everything in the +J collection, the pants can do many things well. Wear them with the wool jacket and you’ve got a proper suit. Wear them with the lightweight tan jacket for a more casual, but still pulled together look. Or wear them with no jacket and just a button down for a relaxed vibe. They come in navy and black, which is really all you need.
