Up in Smoke: Foods that Kill your Sex Drive:

We’ve all been there: after a long, luxurious dinner of champagne, oysters, penne and dark chocolate mousse, you’re expected to perform to the best of your ability in bed. We wish that the order for this kind of thing was reversed. Who wants to head to bed with such a full stomach? In any case, this scenario is inevitable, especially if it’s the first date. Here’s a handy list of what you need to steer away from if you think you’re getting lucky tonight.

*Fried Food *

Sorry, boys, you better skip the frites with your six-ounce steak if you’re thinking you’ll have the stamina for later. Studies have shown that fried foods are a huge libido suppressor due to the testosterone-lowering hydrogenated fats. Luckily for you, as long as you opt for a baked potato, which oddly enough increases dopamine levels, you’ll be fine.

Gin & Tonic

Say it ain’t so! Whether it’s the flavoring in tonic water known as quinine, which lowers testosterone levels, or the fact that drinking one too many can inhibit you from performing, this drink works against you big time. Keep your cool by nursing a martini or, better yet, a glass of red wine.

Soy

Some believe soy is the answer to a lot of health questions, but when it comes to sex it definitely underperforms as a super food; it literally is a powerful male antiaphrodisiac. Soy contains phytoestrogens which tend to compete with the male sex hormone and has been linked to sexual dysfunction, fertility issues, male breast growth and hair loss. Why are we eating this stuff?!

Licorice

It’s not like your meal will include an appetizer of licorice, but if you’re prone to enjoying an aperitif, take note: this herb’s calming tendencies can make you flop in the bedroom due to the active ingredient glycyrrhetinic acid.
